1  Main Forum / Tips and Tricks / Awning doesn't want to unfurl! on: January 31, 2013, 09:16:31 PM
I have a 2011 2552 w/full side elec awning and, sometimes, when I hit the switch to unfurl it when parked, it just unrolls in place without extending away from the unit.  Suggestions?

I actually thought it was one of Billy's jokes posted under the incorrect subject.

Hey everyone - tip your hats to another new member, my father-in-law Ellis and his beautiful bride are the proud new owners of a 2012 PC model 3100.  They downsized from their 1997 Safari and will be joining us on our trip to PEI starting this weekend (thanks for the recommendations Judy!).  He's a tinkerer and is currently installing a water filter (thanks for the plumbing parts Stuart!) under the kitchen counter area so I'll try and have him post results and pictures.

Good advice Ron.  Heading to Maine in May (long way from AZ!) and will keep this in mind when I get to more humid climes.

NO water filter under the sink but I did install my own there on my old 2008 model 2551 (had to do some counter drilling).

DC - one of my favorite return trip vacation places.  You should be missing some of the summer youngsters, especially at the Smithsonion.  Other places such as the Art Museums rarely get the younger crowds anyway.  I took a half day and did a bicycle tour which showed me a lot I didn't know (but thought I did!).  All posts regarding using public transportation should be heeded.  try the House or Senate around dinner time - the crowds are gone but business grinds forward....Enjoy!

We've had a 2551 and now have a 2552 - both w/the head arrangement you are referring and we never even thought about it until reading your post.  Agree with the other posts i nthat we never noticed anything.

Records kept for 2 PCs:

2008 2551
E450 Super Duty (Triton 10)
Dry weight not recorded
did not tow
~14K mi driven
mostly 62mph; cruise on Hwys,
87 octane "regular"
just over 10mph for everything (once got 11.9 but also had alow outlier of 8.9)

2012 2552
E450 Super Duty (Triton 10)
Dry weight per sticker (but it's currently at my garage)
tow a 2012 Honda Fit
~2K driven w/o tow; ~300 w/tow
59-60mph; cruise on Hwys
87 octane "regular"
8.9mph either way (must not have enough data/miles to notice separation)

Heading to the Sonoita Fairgrounds (dry camping) next w/e & will participate in a bike ride to Bisbee the next day while DW & her folks corral the RVs to Queen Mine RV Park (hookups).  I'll return to Sonoita on the bicycle while DW brings the team RV & her folks head back to Phoenix for their Safari's last trip before trading it in for a 3100.  It'll be our 1st jaunt w/toad (Honda Fit) so we'll stay on our toes.  If anyone is in the area - don't hesitate to stop by & say Hi to our 2552.

BTW - forgot to mention that the Sedona shuttle service had been discontinued when we were there in November & when I returned in late February (lunch at Shugrue's Hillside!) it was still not running.  Lots of Pink Jeeps around though!

15  Main Forum / Polls / Re: Toads or tow vehicles? What brand do you use? on: March 01, 2012, 04:47:50 PM
No Ron, I have not initially set up a secondary braking system but I definitely know there is something else attached to the RV. Have only driven it back from the shop to home (~15mi) & consciously maintained a greater distance for stopping although it did not appear to need it.  That being said, I keep a pretty safe stopping distance anyway so I may already be overly cautious (is there such a thing?)

Tow bar appears to be extremely close to horizontal; definitely well within the 3" limit expressed in the manufacturer brochure (I think they actually say 4" but the shop went even lower).  I think the dual hitch actually helped that as the Fit is fairly low to the ground in front.  Remains to be seen how everything works in unison when I try the tow bar & bike rack together later this month when I travel to Sonoita/Bisbee.
