Is there anything else that we should see while in the area?

Any suggestions of what to see would be helpful.

In Gettysburg ... the Dobbin House Tavern ...

There is plenty in and around Gettysburg for a few days of sight seeing.

In nearby York ... Harley-Davidson factory tour, among others.  Lesser known but York was our nation's capital briefly so there are a few historic buildings in downtown.  Nothing like Gettysburg ...

Lots of golf courses in York county too.

I grew up in that area and still visit family around there.

Good Question Tom,

we don't do #2 in our PC.

We tried that system, but at a certain age the inevitable becomes unavoidable and untimely ...  rolling on the floor

A few more questions on the bypass tube and the sani-con unit-
It sounds like the gray water level needs to be high enough to get the water to pass through the bypass tube.  Do you know what the monitor will read at that point?

Also, if the level is high and the bypass tube slowly lets the gray water drain, will taking a shower cause it to overflow into the RV?  In other words, faster coming in and slower going out- will it cause  a problem?

Thanks- Roni

I tried leaving the grey open ONCE, and the monitor read FULL ... I had the same concerns as you about it draining too slowly and I have chosen not to ever camp with the grey open.  I just pump out some grey during extended stays.

Not the answer you were looking for ... hopefully someone else has better experiences

6  Main Forum / General Discussion / Re: Sprinter MPG on: July 25, 2012, 09:12:19 am
I know there are many PC's riding on Sprinter chassis out there but do not seem to hear much from "you all" on this forum....what are you actually getting for MPG with full tanks, AC on doing 65MPH?  Are you content with the vehicles handling?  How are they standing up from a maintennace perspective? Do you feel the increase cost of the chassis is worth it? Just wondering!  Thanks

Although I don't think there are "many" of us running around on a Sprinter, here goes ...

Average 16mpg ... best 18, worst 12 ... generally keep it 65mph and under unless passing or running downhill.

Content with handling ... Absolutely.

Maintenance perspective ... In just over a year ownership and 10,000 miles driven it has been routine maintenance and 2 issues completely covered under warranty.  One was an egr sensor replacement and the other was the seal on the rear differential developed a leak.

Worth the increased cost ?  ... I really don't know, I honestly think that is SO much an individual's perspective that there is no correct answer.

Since my wife weighs half of what I do, should I send her up on the roof twice as often as I go up there instead ? ! ? ! ?

There's one other reason to go to Anchorage.  It's on the great circle route to SE Asia.

Which is one of the reasons that my job is there ...

As for question regarding Anchorage...there are only three reasons to go there...Moose's Tooth Pizza....Costco....and to drive thru in order to go somewhere else.

I only have 2 reasons then ... A great job that I can't afford to leave, and Moose's Tooth Pizza !

11  Main Forum / General Discussion / Re: What tires are ya'll buying? on: May 02, 2012, 08:51:58 am

I read about cracked tires on motorhomes all the time, but is never discussed on other vehicle forums.  I wonder what that is all about.  Is the rubber on truck tires different, or is it simply that the tires sit around too long, exposed to the elements?

Our 2007 is garage kept, opposite the garage window, so it's pretty much in a cave.  Five years so far without any cracks.  I never apply any type of tire dressing either.

I don't know if the rubber compound is any different, but I have heard that tires that are in motion (being driven on) will be less susceptible to dry rot.  The reasoning was that the constant flexing prevents the dry rot.

It makes some sense considering the typical driving habits of RVs vs Cars ...

I'm surprised you have cracking in the sidewalls of your tires on a 2010 model RV.

A 2010 motor home could be built on a 2008 chassis (ours is), maybe older.  The tires could have been manufactured in 2007.  Those pre-delivery years can add up.

Congrats on the new rig !

Elkhart to Alaska via Cape Cod is a little more than a detour ...

Will I see this PC roaming anywhere near Anchorage by chance ?

Thanks for the info Sue.  That Holiday Trav-L-Park is one we will return to for sure.  We were there last Sept in a Super Site.
