Ever since the PC was new we hated the carpet right at the entrance. A real dirt catcher. After cleaning the rug too many times we got encouraged by others and looked into a wood floor. However RV Renovators in Mesa, AZ convinced us to use a faux slate instead. It matches the colors of the leather and the wood and has structure. We use a small removable carpet under the dinette.

The new floor looks quite attractive.  What's the material?
How is it attached?  Isn't there vinyl tile over the whole floor
under the carpet?  Did you remove the tile as well?  I know
some floor coverings require a wooden sub-floor surface under
them.

Thanks for posting!

Chily,

I find your posts quite interesting.  Most people on this forum have newer rigs with projects done for improvement sake.  You are the longest PC owner I know who bought his rig new in 2004, who travels a lot with his rig, and now entering the renovation stage of ownership.

Thanks for sharing your experience and ideas.

The original vinyl floor does not reach under the carpet. The subfloor of the whole unit is plywood of course and the new slate pattern and structured surface comes in locking plates and is glued with an elastic glue to the plywood.
We left the original vinyl in the bathroom because it's less sensitive to standing water. The new material is very resistant to scratches.
