We have a 2551 with slide.  When we bought the motor home about three months ago we did not notice that the slide dug deeply into the lino in front of the refrigerator and into the carpet in front of the couch.  Once discovered, though, we told Stuart that we were concerned.  He told us that all slides were leaving deep indentations on the flooring and that this was due to the weight of the slide, 400 pounds, and the heavily padded floor.  We have had motor homes with slides and have never experienced the slowness or noise in opening and closing we experience with this slide nor the indentations in the flooring.  We have written to Kermit about our concerns and included pictures but have never heard from him.

Those of you with slides -- do you also have deep grooves in the flooring?  And, if not, do you have any thoughts on what has gone wrong with ours?  If this is normal -- as I have been told by Stuart -- then I am great disappointed.  If it isn't normal I want it fixed.

Paula,

All I can say is ......If I had a slide out and it was doing that, I would not be happy.  You live far away from Elkhart, right?  I would take it to an independant RV repair shop to get the slide out adjusted to your satisfaction and send Kermit the bill under warranty.  If he refuses to cover the cost, then you'll have to share that with all.  But from all I have read over the years, he will do the right thing and send you a check.

I agree 100% with Ron. Have you called Kermit with the issue? We have found that calling him works MUCH better than Emailing.

Judi,

I didn't email him.  I wrote him a letter three weeks ago and enclosed pictures of the problems we are facing.  Never heard from him.  Called him this morning.  He wasn't in.  Left a message about the letter and the need for follow up.  Haven't heard from him.  I hope he responds by the end of the day.  I am going to take up Ron's suggestion, though, and schedule an appt. with an independent rv repair shop in Albuquerque and have the slide assessed.  I would prefer it if Kermit told me where to get the work done in Albuquerque but at this point I don't have the patience to wait any  longer since a big trip is scheduled for June.

We have a 2350 S with the refrigerator in the slide. The slide moves on two 6" rollers that rest on the carpet not the vinyl flooring. The rollers leave tracks on the carpet and indentations where they rest with the slide retracted; much like the dents in the carpet from a table or chair in the house. Any indentations in your vinyl would seem to be a problem....

Kermit called.  I made an appt. next week in Albuquerque to get the slide assessed and he told me to go ahead and get estimates on the chipping paint and the damage done to the ladder and rear bumper area by the dealer before we bought the motor home.  Once I get this out of the way and the play in the steering resolved we are good to go.

I have EXACTLY the same issues with my 2350(Ford chassis), slide digging in the linoleum & steering looseness. As for the slide, please post the outcome when you take it for service so I can proceed. I am also still in warranty. I was going to be in the Elkhart area this summer and was going to let the factory look at it.

Back to the steering: I took my 2350 to an alignment shop that specialises in front ends after speaking with Kermit. The shop found the "camber" which controls the angle of the tires was incorrect, as was the alignment(toe in/toe out). They made the necessary "tweak" and it drives pretty good. The only thing that wasn't resolved was "tightness" in the steering wheel...but it IS getting better as the steering gearbox wears in. A word of caution: Don't bother to take it to a Ford dealer. I went to two dealers in my area and it was wasted time. All the excuses in the world but they couldnt handle it, basically. It would be conducive for PC to take their units to an alignment shop AFTER the coach is built so the front end can be adjusted to the new weight on the chassis. Thats the way it was explained to me anyway...

My 2350 has had a few items that need to be addressed. I would just say keep in communication with Kermit and he'll make it right.

I have been warned to steer away from Ford on alignment issues.  I am making an appt. with a truck shop in Albuquerque to look at the play in the steering wheel.  And, yes, I will post the outcome of the slide assessment when I get it next Tuesday.
