The fridge switches over to gas after unhooking from shore power but eventually goes off as we travel down the road and gives a fault message. My RV dealer said it works fine on its on when parked but he says it must go out when the outside air hits the fridge down the road .  He said I possibly could put something inside the outside cover while traveling and then remove it when parked so it can breathe.
There is always a discussion that you should not travel with the propane on. I only travel for about 5 hours at a time and the fridge stayed cold but it is just frustrating to have this problem. Any suggestions?

We do not use the automatic setting but rather switch over manually when going on and off shore power. Don't remember any problems.

We travel with the frig on propane for days at a time with no problems.

What error are you getting, we might be able to provide some info.

I get an" F "on the panel.  I have tried manually switching over and once I am on the road it goes to an "F" reading. So I punch it in again and for a few seconds it stays on Gas and then goes to the "F". It works okay as long as I am not traveling. As I stated above my RV service couldn't find the problem as it stayed on gas when he was not hook up to electric.

I finally solved our problem by adjusting the propane ignition wire. Our fridge would light, run, then shutdown. The wire has some kind of fuse that shuts off the gas. The igniter had loosened. Have not had the problem since.

Not sure what model refrigerator you have (ours is a Norcold N621L)  The 'F' fault code means the burner did not ignite or reignite.  Since it does ignite while parked, it sure sounds like the airflow while driving is influencing things.  And since it did work fine up until this point I would think the service tech would have checked gas pressure, combustion seal, electrode spark gap and cleanliness of the burner orifice (at the very least)

This is a link to a Norcold Service Manual that has a troubleshooting flowchart for various problems, including LP Gas Ignition Failure.

http://www.liveworkdream.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/norcoldmanual.pdf

Generally, some of the things to check:
- Make sure the propane gas pressure is 11 inches of water column.
- Make sure the combustion seal is complete and intact.
- Make sure the burner and the burner orifice are clean.
- Make sure the electrode spark gap is 1/8 - 3/16 inch.
- Make sure the AC voltage is 108 - 132 volts and the DC voltage is 10.5 - 15.4 volts.
- Make sure the thermocouple tip is clean and secure.
- The flame should be a darker blue color on the inside of the flame and a lighter blue color on the outside of the flame, and a constant shape without flickering.
It should not be - yellow - flickering or changing shape.
- Make sure the flame does not touch the inside of the flue tube.

My manual describes the processes for removing and cleaning the burner orifice, examining the gas lines for leaks, etc. but also says these things should only be done by a Norcold Service Center.

I have had and I have seen several times when the tube with the 90 degree bend in it has become clogged with spider webs and stink bugs. I just cleaned the tube with a brush I got at Camping World that was made for this. Problem was gone. You could use any thing to clean the tube, just be careful. I removed the tube before cleaning it, it only had one screw. Sometimes it is the simple things that work. Hope this helps.
