Hi Billy:

Last night I was trying to post pictures and my computer was giving me problems.  So, I deleted my post....When I get to work tomorrow and use my good computer there, I will post.

Well, they came as I ordered and went on pretty easy. I think the longer rails actually look better than the shorter ones .  I put a bar across the racks and loaded up my kayaks.  They are ready to go. If I can remember I will take pictures of that tonight and post them.

David,
Any pictures with the kayaks up on top? Looking to do something similar but I'm a bit concerned that the width between the rails will be to much and with two kayaks the wind load will put an awful stress on those railings.

Rich:

Sorry I have not responded sooner.  I have lots of pictures with the kayaks up top.  Let me dig them up and send them to you.

Would ya mind posting the picture on here? We would love to see the kayaks on top. Is it difficult loading/unloading them?

David,
Did you have the same rails put on the 2552 for your kayaks? How long are the kayaks, how much do they weigh and how hard is it to get them up there??? We don't have kayaks at the present time but are planning for that eventuality in the near future.

George:

Sorry for the delay in responding, but alas work and family beckons...

Our kayaks are tandems so they are longer than some.  They are 13.5 long and weigh 75lbs each. If you had two singles they would be much lighter and shorter.  We are a family of 4 so we need the tandems.  Getting them up is pretty easy.  We do it two ways.  One way is a block and pulley system that we use to pull the kayak up while we are standing on the ground.  When I am lazy  and don't feel like attaching the block and pulley, I lift the front end of the kayak up and walk up the ladder while my wife and kid push the back up from behind.  When up top I flip the kayak over and tie it down.

On our new 2552 I have not installed the rails yet.  We picked the rv up late October and have not camped in it yet... Winter and life came too fast.  We drove our new rv home from the  plant, winterized it , put in the garage and put it to sleep for the winter.  We have not had our maiden voyage.  You may not know , but we are in our 40's with two teenagers who participate in many activities.  Not to mention we both still work... so time has a way of getting away from us.  We do camp lots as we are in a camping club and every summer we also take extended camping vacations.  Last year was Yellowstone, this year the Grand Canyon....After this summer I can fill you in more on the new rv.

Regards.

David,
Thanks for the response. We do not have kayaks now but we are considering buying them. Since we will be towing a vehicle, which is a soft top Geo Tracker, where and how to carry kayaks will be an issue for us. The roof seems like the best alternative.

We have rented on our trips and may continue to do that. Don't know!!!

George,

since you haven't purchased your kayaks yet, you might consider the folding XT Touring kayaks by the PakBoat company. I struggled with the same dilemma and instead of hoisting my 38 lb Mad River kevlar canoe 10' up into the air, I sold it and bought a 39 lb 15' folding PakBoat canoe. It fits INSIDE my tow vehicle in a 34" x 24" x 16" bag. The 15' solo model kayak fits into 33" x 12" x 20" bag and also weighs 39 lbs. They paddle as well or better than rigid hulls.
And when we leave the tow vehicle behind, the canoe fits in the shower.
Nice rack anyway. It does look like it should be that way and not the short version.
