To all the DIY Fixers

This DSM (Dumb S--- Marker) became necessary when I drilled a 7/8 inch hole in the middle of a board (the one on the end of the passenger side bed) that ended up not being required.  There is no need or reason to go into the details of why the hole was drilled.  Let's just say it was done in error.

This marker serves two purposes.  First, to remind me to do a little more research and pay closer attention to details.  Second, prove to my Very Smart DW that I can fix errors to her satisfaction.  Click on picture to see my fix.  Hopefully this will be worth a couple of HELPFUL ratings.

If you can't laugh at yourself who can you laugh at.

Bob

Thanks, the helpful rating eases my pain.  I'm sure my DSM is permanent and nonrevocable especially when the motor home is in the wife's name.

I don't see any hole. What is with the silver eject button on the bottom of the bed? Are you that hard to get up in the morning?

Nice job of hidding the hole.

What is that round silver thing, a door knob?  A real close-up pic would help.

What comes to my mind to close up such an "Oops" hole is to install a vent plug.  Then it serves a purpose, allowing air to circulate between the under-bed and cabin to control trapped humidity that might accumulate under the bed.  Just as important, people will think is was designed to be that way, not seen as someone's mistake.

Vent plugs can be bought at home improvement centers and hardware stores.

Here are a couple varieties of plastic vent plugs.  They come in many diameters, colors, materials & styles.

Ron,

If you click on the picture you will see a larger image.

I had actually looked for a good looking vent plug but could not find one in the local stores around here.  Since we are leaving for a 3 1/2 month stay in Florida shortly I was not going to take the chance and do an online ordering during this time of year.

What I used was a furniture glide in brushed nickel.  It was excatcly 7/8 of an inch and virtually flat so fit the hole nicely.  It will also pull out if and when I find something that looks as good.

My DW said we should put in a central vacuum plug and pretend it is for our central vacuum system--but since we don't have any carpeting we didn't think that would be believable.

Besides--I like Tom Hanlon's suggestion that it is an eject button to get me going in the morning.

I'm glad I'm laughing about this an not crying.

Barry,

I did open the picture larger, but still could not make out what you used.  I will admit, it does look nice.

I wish there was a half point helpful rating I could give you for the actual fix!  :lol

I gave you a full point for being a true Roman Legionaire and taking the sword (which I assume would have been "administered" if you hadn't?)

Nicely done!  You'll have to come up w/some story about what equipment internal to that cabinet requires such a small vent!
