Dinette redo
« on: January 08, 2012, 04:57:28 pm »
Well, now that I have this picture thing figured out (I hope), I want to share my latest mods. Our dinnette was fine for eating, but not much on comfort when wanting to kick back and watch tv. DH is happy in his 3rd captain's chair but I just couldn't make the dinette bench work. So, I put it into the bed position, bought some foam daybed bolster cushions (had to reshape ends some), and upholstered all. I added a memory foam cushion to the bed before covering. I bought a roll out plastic bin for extra storage under the bed. Carol was very helpful by supplying me with some wood and hardware to build the lift-up table. I included a little magazine rack behind the closed table. Now I can lounge like a princess!!   :lol

Oh now that is "Tops".  If I had a slideout like you have Trudy, I'd be looking into this.  You basically made a day bed with a real nice pull-up table.  2o2

Trudy,
That mod is really impressive.  I can see how you can lounge like a princess.  The cushions look to be a major comfortable asset.

Thanks everyone. I really do like it better, as we seldom eat inside anyway. Now if we do, Lonnie uses little flip up table by his chair and I use the new one. Works good for us! When you think about it, how much time do you actually spend eating a meal anyway?  One thing I would have done different is switch out the bed cushions for a one piece mattress. Might still do that sometime. Either way, if we sell, the whole thing can easily put back as a dinette. Anyhoo, thanks for the compliments. Made my day!

Trudy,

Very nice!!!! Great idea!!!  We agree about the table - it gets us eating outside alot more than when we had a permanent table.

Trudy, I could easily manage with your indoor eating arrangement as it seems to be setup well and quite comfortable for two people.

But for my wife Irene, eating on separate tables would not fly with her.  It has to do with how we used to eat separately in our old motor home.  She is lovin us eating together at a regular table again.  Like most of you, Irene does prefer to eat outside, but quite often we are brought indoors due to weather or temperature, mosquitoes, or early night fall.  When we do eat in, Irene enjoys table settings done just right.  It's got to look right to her or she won't be feeling right about it.

A benefit to the dining table that I appreciate more is how the two of us sit across from eachother to play cards or a game like Scrabble.  I only wish the seating was more comfortable for longer periods.  Denser foam cushions and angled back rests (like you did Trudy) would both help.

We go from a picnic table to eating off of our laps to a nicely set dinner table.  Here's a pic of how we set the table tonight.  It was just too hot to eat outside at 81 degrees and the full sun shining down (lol).   1:)4

Hi Trudy, if you're still here! I'm curious what the length is of your dinette (if it's the same as Gail's measurements in my thread); I'm looking of doing something similar on the driver's side of a 2100; this looks great. Thanks.
