Title: Queen bed/sofa slide - sheets?
Post by: Rosy Phoenix on July 24, 2016, 05:17:24 pm
It's me again, with MORE questions. I went in my cruiser to put a fitted bottom sheet on the bed and I found that the head of the bed upholstery is stapled to the slide out wall. This makes it impossible to put on the sheet? What would happen if took out this row of staples so that the sheet would fit? My plan was to make a custom sheet, just the right size and leave it on most of the time, when the bed is made up as a bed and when it is in the couch position. The original 12 year old upholstery is very worn and stained. Any sage advice is most appreciated, thank you!

Rosy,

Our units were a 2008 and 2012.  Neither had the upholstery stapled to the slide out wall.  I would call the factory and ask them what the purpose was.  They should be able to tell you if it was just for looks or it had some structural purpose.  I'm wondering if it was just to fill in the gap between the wall and couch when the couch is opened for a bed.

We have that same fixed panel at the head of our slide-out sofa-bed.
Diane made a cover for the rest of the bed, not including that panel.
It means that the panel isn't protected by the cover, but we quickly
put the Superbag on the bed as soon as it's slid out, and the panel
seems in fine shape.

Note: Diane found some straps that you clamp to the edges of the
fitted sheet.  They were hard to put on - they go underneath the mattress
and among the machinery.  But the resulting sheet is great!

Thanks! Great info. We are THINKING OF UNBOLTING THE BED/couch, moving it forward into the aisle abou 2-3 inches, removing stapled panel, enlarging it and re-stapling it so that too tall hubs' feet don't hang over the foot of the bed, lol. Might also put a couple hooks on inside corner of metal frame at head of bed corners so that I can clip sheets to those, love my real sheets!

In my 2100 the panel that is stapled to the wall floats free when the couch opens/shuts to fill the gap from the wall to the mattress.  Lift it up and it allows access to the motors/wiring for the bed.  I made a custom sheet that goes on the actual couch/mattress part and then kind of a a giant pillow slip that covers the top panel. I do leave the sheets/blankets on when closed and put a nice throw over it all. We are short so length is not an issue. Not sure you can make current bed longer.
