General Discussion / Summer trip
« on: October 25, 2016, 02:34:14 pm »
This years summer trip is over, here's how it went.  We loaded up and left Naples, Fl on the 14th of May.  Our first stop was Bushnel, Fl and the Escapees Rv park to have the four corners of our 2552 weighed, the results:

LF2350.  RF2260

LR4290.  RR4250
Height 10 ft 3 in
Those numbers and the tire chart advised 65 pounds on all six tires.  On a cool morning (55) I inflated the tires to 70 pounds.  At that pressure the ride was fine and the tires stayed at the appropriate temp during the rest of the trip.  We're 1000 pounds light on the rear axle, not bad although we still took too much stuff.

Next was Clinton Tn (north of Knoxville) for 3 weeks, then up to Shipshewana Indiana for a week.  We visited the factory to say hello to the folks there. Then north to South Haven Mi.. After a few days on to Ludington Mi.  After a week there we went to Traverse Bay RV resort, where we own a site.  Six weeks later we headed back towards the south.  Summerdale Al, just north of Gulf Shores.  After a few days we started out on a trip we had looked forward to, US 98 all the way to just north of Tampa Fl. US 98 goes along the gulf shore and is a really nice drive.. We spent a few days on exploring historic Apalachacola Fl.  The heart of gulf fishing and oyster catching.

US 98 from just south of Tallahassee is a wonderful drive.  Wide, smooth and almost no trucks.  We finally arrive home, after a few more stops, on October 14.

We were out 6 months this time, 5 months last year.  The coach was comfortable and suited us perfectly in space, storage, and all around utility.  Our 2552 is a 2015 model and drives great.  I don't see how it could be improved.

Summer totals= 3705 miles,  425 gallons of fuel for an average of 8.81 mpg.  That's adjusted for generator use.

After 17 years of full time in 40 footers we had forgotten how much work is involved in loading and unloading for these trips.  That's the only downer to down sizing.

Tips and Tricks / House battery's
« on: April 23, 2016, 10:18:27 am »
Are the house battery's charged while driving?   My understanding is the ford alternator charges the house battery's while driving. The inverter does not have to be turned on.

General Discussion / First trip in our new 2552.
« on: November 09, 2015, 02:51:52 pm »
After 17 years of full time rving we downsized to our new 2552.  We were a little concerned about the gross reduction in size from a 40 foot Allegro bus.  We shouldn't have worried. We are very comfortable in our cruiser.  Our trip started in Naples, Fl and continued north to Knoxville Tn, Shipshewana In, South Haven Mi, Manistee Mi, Traverse City Mi and south to Ludington Mi, NW Kentucky and the bourbon tour, Nashville Tn for the annual Phoenix gathering, back to Knoxville and on south to Tallahassee Fl, Cedar Key Fl, Lazy days CG, and back to Naples,Fl, our home base.

4000 + miles at 8.8 mpg incl generator, overall.  Not bad for a new engine.  We trow a honda cr-v.

The rig ran wonderfully with only a couple problems.  We were near the factory at that time and the troubles were taken care of by Bob in short order.  What a great change compared tp weeks in Red Bay at the Tiffin service center.

We found that the floor plan worked great for us and showed the forethought of the planning at Phoenix.  Good storage, ease of use all added up to near perfection for us.  We had read somewhere that Ford had made some improvements in the front end of the 2015 E450 and we were surprised at how well the rig steered going down the road.  We later found out that they beefed up the shocks and added a steering control bar to the rig.  It drove just fine, no wandering and funny stuff.

We have been most of the places we went before except for Cedar Key, Fl.  What a great place!  Small funky cg, break bike riding, eating and shopping.  This little spot is like 1940.  you can walk, ride bikes, or drive anywhere and see history of the place.

This unit is a pleasure to drive and just cruise around in.  The size lets us go just about anywhere we want.  We're back home now and are planning the trip for next summer, maybe out west, although I have promised myself that I won't drive across the great flat again.  I don't know how many times we've made the drive.  We used to live in California and drive to Florida to visit Betty's family and now we live and travel to California to visit our kids and grandkids.  Can't seem to get it together.

I'll be glad to answer any questions you might have about the rig or the trip.

General Discussion / first trip
« on: June 01, 2015, 09:23:57 am »
We finally got our new rig (2552) set up.  We enjoyed having unlimited time for the job because it wasn't a swap out.  We went up to Ft Myers for 3 days and the first morning we made a trip to Target to buy the stuff we forgotten  Having been full time for 17 years we forgot how to pack for a trip. Oh boy!  Now we are getting ready for the summer trip. East Tennessee then northern Michigan.  Our daughter and her husband will join us there in their American 40' dream from Indio,CA.  We will stay in Michigan for August then head down to the rally in Nashville.  We look forward to meeting you folks.  After that our two rigs will go to Branson and Tom Sawyer park for a few days.  Then the kids will head back west and we will head east for Naples, our base.  So far the rig has been fine and I'm reading the manuals to avoid as many dumb things as I can.  I'll keep you posted.

General Discussion / just bought one
« on: January 29, 2015, 02:48:17 pm »
Betty and I bought (ordered) a new 2552 at the Ft Myers show. it is part of our downsizing program.  Full timers for 17 years our travels sort of evolved into mostly going frm the winter place to the summer place.  We are tired of the rut we built for ourselves.  Our tiffin bus is gone and is replaced with a Redwood 5th wheel, tied down in Florida.  We really shook forward to being back on the red roads and exploring new places again.  Thanks to those of you who provided all the info on this forum, it has been very helpful.  We will keep you updated on our progress.  Now the wait for delivery begins!
