Looking for an RV site in the Chicago area.
« on: July 28, 2012, 03:13:00 pm »
We intend to travel to Chicago in late August to see friends in the Harbor/Navy Pier area, where there is no RV parking. So this "HELP' is for any Chicagoans (Ron Dittmer) who may have some local knowledge on where to park or store the PC.
Thanks in anticipation.

Kevin, we will not have a dinghy and will be picked up by our Chicago friends in their car, but trying to keep their drive minimal.
Many thanks for your interest.
Chris.

Boy, you would think I could offer a suggestion here, but I have "Zero".  Everything I Know of is near 2 hours from Navy Pier.  Even I am 2 hours away.

the idea rattling about in my noggin is a friend from southwest Michigan told me that he drives to ???? somewhere -i'm thinking here- pyho pyho  oh methinks nit be Michigan City & takes the train in to Union Station - or is it Grant's station or is his the fountain...... oh double dog dareya darn.   Anyway, if you think about where your friends are in relation to a train & then go to end of the line, you may find something. i.e. a campground in southwest Mich or northwest Indiana. or oops, grill calls -smoke- :-D :-D

I reread your post.  STORE the PC .  no back story this time  :-D :-D :-D (someday aimee I'll tell it for around the campfire) idea  ..  :cool ...park at South Bend Airport lot & ride the South Shore Line into Chicago. 2o2 The lot should be secure, airport has a train station and the lots have long term parking, so rig won't really look out of place.

PS  I just looked on my Good Sam mapping program and Indiana Dunes State Park has campsites & SS Line has a Dunes Station.  I looked on Google Earth, the station & campsites are less than a mile apart; so, a bit more to walk.  maybe this will work?

Hi Kevin and all other respondents,
Many thanks for all your inputs with ideas that got me off my duff and into Google. I found Able Autotruck Parking and Storage, Inc. at S. Wentworth Ave., just west of I-94 and I-90 at $20 per day and 10 minutes from Downtown.  heartshower
Thanks again and see ya'll in Kerrville.
Chris.

10 minutes from downtown is great.  The best I could have helped with was 2 hours taking trains and cabs....not pretty.

Probably not a lot of  help in this particular instance, but we highly recommend www.rvparkreviews.com for searching out quality parks and campgrounds.  It's a very useful site, populated by reviews by regular folks.  We've stayed at many places based primarily on reviews we read on their site, and so far we've never been let down. And so say we are

Chris...

If you should get an extra day or two, I highly recommend Indiana Dunes SP....very reasonable, many good things, and cold water!! (lake Mi) Linda went in, but macho Me stayed on the beach!
