Question With Older Zone Defense Backup Camera
« on: October 12, 2013, 11:00:49 am »
Our 2007 2350 was equipped with a Zone Defense backup camera system which also included sound in the back of the rig.  A few years ago my sound dropped off.  Since the monitor can still raise the volume generating the loud hissing sound from over-volume, I assume my microphone is still working, but might be blocked with a spider nest or other dirt.  My problem is that I can't find the microphone.  I inspected the camera very closely for even a tiny pin hole for a mic but nothing is there.  I looked elsewhere in back of the rig but found nothing.

Does anyone know where the microphone is located?

My ZD manual is too basic.  It doesn't offer anything of value.  The book says it's System 322.  It implies the microphone is in the camera but I can't find it in that little thing.

Have you called Zone Defense? I found what is probably your manual as well as a product brochure but other than "built in mic" there's nothing in what I found that will help you. The numbers I found are: (866) 672-1212 + Tech Support: (866) 672-1212
John, Holly, and sometimes Chloe.

The manual had an email address for questions but it bounced back today.

Thanks for the phone numbers.  I will try them Monday.

I called Zone Defense and left a message.  A tech guy called me back.  He said there is a pin hole in the back of the camera.  As I suspected, he suspects too, the pin hole is clogged with dirt or other foreign matter.  I'll have to dismount it to clean the hole.  Then hopefully I'll have sound again.

I also asked about the LEDs.  He says they are IR LEDs.  The naked eye won't see the light, but the camera picks up the images in the dark.  That explains how I could see in the monitor, my wife walking around behind the rig in the dark.
